ONTARIO CANCER SCANDAL: THE ELECTION IS OVER BUT THE FIGHT GOES ON

Province ranks among the worst in the country for access to newer cancer care.

CARP joined forces with new grass-roots cancer patients coalition to make this an issue in the provincial election.

A new grass-roots coalition of cancer patients joined forces with the “No More Waiting” campaign to make Ontario’s deplorable record on cancer an issue in the recent provincial election.

  • Ontario is the second worst province in the country in terms of providing access to newer intravenous cancer drugs and therapy
  • Ontario is the worst province in the country in terms of providing access to PET scans

“We demand parity with the best,” said Antonia Codispoti and Hilda Mackow, founder of the Ontario Citizens Cancer Coalition. “British Columbia leads in access to new cancer drugs; Quebec leads in access to scans. It is shocking that Ontario is second from the bottom.”

“Cancer affects the lives of everyone and access to cancer care is an extremely important issue,” said Holly Vengroff, Director of External Relations for CARP, Canada’s Association for the Fifty-Plus. “Our ‘No More Waiting’ campaign, and our joint effort with the Ontario Citizens Cancer Coalition, created great awareness for this issue during the recent election campaign. And we’re going to continue to put pressure on the government to improve Ontario’s record.”
